EWF founder Maurice White created indie label in late ‘90s

Ted Joseph has been appointed label manager for Kalimba Music, relaunched last year by Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White. In his new role, Joseph will also be working with Kalimba CEO and White manager Art Macnow.

During a 21-year stint at Warner Bros. Records, Joseph served as director of marketing and worked with such artists as Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, Prince and Rod Stewart. Most recently a consultant to various indie labels, Joseph was also president of independent label Odds On Records (Air Supply).

Kalimba, originally established in the late ‘90s, formally signaled its industry re-entry with the June reissue of Earth, Wind & Fire’s 2003 album The Promise (which hit No. 19 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums). The new digitally remastered collector’s edition features the 2014 remix single “Never.” Kalimba’s first artist signing is keyboardist/composer Greg Manning. His debut album for the label, “Dance With You,” is being released July 8 and features lead single, “Cruisin’ Down the Road.”

“The vision for the label is simple,” says Joseph. “It’s a boutique organization looking more for great quality artists who have some past touring experience and charted recordings. Our goal is to work hands-on with these artists to guide their careers to the next level.”
